Tehillim for our Soldiers in Israel: Jews fight with their words

When Israel is at War

When Israel is at war, the rabbis ask the entire Jewish people to say extra chapters of Tehillim (Psalms), most notably chapters 20, 83, 121, 130 and 142.
We know that Eisav is a man of the sword and Jews fight with their words as it says

Even though we are not physically fighting the war we can still be soldiers of Hashem's army . Our words are like arrows (bullets) and don't think for one second that they have no influence. Perhaps your tefilah permeated in heaven which caused a rocket to divert and land out in the field and not landing the other way around ending with tragedy.

Psalms Chapter 20

1 For the Leader. A Psalm of David.
ב  יַעַנְךָ יְהוָה, בְּיוֹם צָרָה;    יְשַׂגֶּבְךָ, שֵׁם אֱלֹהֵי יַעֲקֹב.2 The LORD answer thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob set thee up on high;
ג  יִשְׁלַח-עֶזְרְךָ מִקֹּדֶשׁ;    וּמִצִּיּוֹן, יִסְעָדֶךָּ.3 Send forth thy help from the sanctuary, and support thee out of Zion;
4 Receive the memorial of all thy meal-offerings, and accept the fat of thy burnt-sacrifice; Selah
5 Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel.
ו  נְרַנְּנָה, בִּישׁוּעָתֶךָ--    וּבְשֵׁם-אֱלֹהֵינוּ נִדְגֹּל;
6 We will shout for joy in thy victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our standards;{N}
the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.
7 Now know I that the LORD saveth His anointed; {N}
He will answer him from His holy heaven with the mighty acts of His saving right hand.
ח  אֵלֶּה בָרֶכֶב,    וְאֵלֶּה בַסּוּסִים;
8 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; {N}
but we will make mention of the name of the LORD our God.
9 They are bowed down and fallen; but we are risen, and stand upright.
י  יְהוָה הוֹשִׁיעָה:    הַמֶּלֶךְ, יַעֲנֵנוּ בְיוֹם-קָרְאֵנוּ.10 Save, LORD; let the King answer us in the day that we call. {P}

Psalms Chapter 83

1 A Song, a Psalm of Asaph.
2 O God, keep not Thou silence; hold not Thy peace, and be not still, O God.
3 For, lo, Thine enemies are in an uproar; and they that hate Thee have lifted up the head.
4 They hold crafty converse against Thy people, and take counsel against Thy treasured ones.
5 They have said: 'Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.'
ו  כִּי נוֹעֲצוּ לֵב יַחְדָּו;    עָלֶיךָ, בְּרִית יִכְרֹתוּ.6 For they have consulted together with one consent; against Thee do they make a covenant;
ז  אָהֳלֵי אֱדוֹם, וְיִשְׁמְעֵאלִים;    מוֹאָב וְהַגְרִים.7 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab, and the Hagrites;
ח  גְּבָל וְעַמּוֹן, וַעֲמָלֵק;    פְּלֶשֶׁת, עִם-יֹשְׁבֵי צוֹר.8 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
9 Assyria also is joined with them; they have been an arm to the children of Lot. Selah
י  עֲשֵׂה-לָהֶם כְּמִדְיָן;    כְּסִיסְרָא כְיָבִין, בְּנַחַל קִישׁוֹן.10 Do Thou unto them as unto Midian; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook Kishon;
11 Who were destroyed at En-dor; they became as dung for the earth.
יב  שִׁיתֵמוֹ נְדִיבֵימוֹ, כְּעֹרֵב וְכִזְאֵב;    וּכְזֶבַח וּכְצַלְמֻנָּע, כָּל-נְסִיכֵימוֹ.12 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and like Zebah and Zalmunna all their princes;
13 Who said: 'Let us take to ourselves in possession the habitations of God.'
14 O my God, make them like the whirling dust; as stubble before the wind.
טו  כְּאֵשׁ תִּבְעַר-יָעַר;    וּכְלֶהָבָה, תְּלַהֵט הָרִים.15 As the fire that burneth the forest, and as the flame that setteth the mountains ablaze;
16 So pursue them with Thy tempest, and affright them with Thy storm.
17 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek Thy name, O LORD.
יח  יֵבֹשׁוּ וְיִבָּהֲלוּ עֲדֵי-עַד;    וְיַחְפְּרוּ וְיֹאבֵדוּ.18 Let them be ashamed and affrighted for ever; yea, let them be abashed and perish;
19 That they may know that it is Thou alone whose name is the LORD, {N}
the Most High over all the earth. {P}

Psalms Chapter 121

1 A Song of Ascents. {N}
I will lift up mine eyes unto the mountains: from whence shall my help come?
2 My help cometh from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; He that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, He that keepeth Israel doth neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is thy keeper; the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD shall keep thee from all evil; He shall keep thy soul.
ח  יְהוָה, יִשְׁמָר-צֵאתְךָ וּבוֹאֶךָ--    מֵעַתָּה, וְעַד-עוֹלָם.8 The LORD shall guard thy going out and thy coming in, from this time forth and for ever. {P}

Psalms Chapter 130

1 A Song of Ascents.
Out of the depths have I called Thee, O LORD.
2 Lord, hearken unto my voice;
let Thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
3 If Thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?
4 For with Thee there is forgiveness, that Thou mayest be feared.
5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in His word do I hope.
6 My soul waiteth for the Lord, more than watchmen for the morning; yea, more than watchmen for the morning.
7 O Israel, hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is mercy, and with Him is plenteous redemption.
8 And He will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Psalms Chapter 142

א  מַשְׂכִּיל לְדָוִד;
1 Maschil of David,
when he was in the cave; a Prayer.
2 With my voice I cry unto the LORD; with my voice I make supplication unto the LORD.
ג  אֶשְׁפֹּךְ לְפָנָיו שִׂיחִי;    צָרָתִי, לְפָנָיו אַגִּיד.3 I pour out my complaint before Him, I declare before Him my trouble;
4 When my spirit fainteth within me--Thou knowest my path--
in the way wherein I walk have they hidden a snare for me.
5 Look on my right hand, and see, for there is no man that knoweth me;
I have no way to flee; no man careth for my soul.
6 I have cried unto Thee, O LORD;
I have said: 'Thou art my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.'
7 Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low;
deliver me from my persecutors; for they are too strong for me.
8 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks unto Thy name;
the righteous shall crown themselves because of me; for Thou wilt deal bountifully with me.
